corrosion behaviour investigation of the four cr-mn-(ni-free) austenitic steels in 0.1 m h2so4 solution
Authors
abstract
in this study, the four cr-mn-(ni-free) austenitic steels were fabricated by vacuum induction furnace. then plates with 10 mm thickness were fabricated by hot-rolling. corrosion behaviour of the four cr-mn steels in 0.1 m h2so4 solution was investigated using by open-circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (eis). the results indicated that the open-circuit potentials of the four cr-mn austenitic steels were found to shift towards positive direction. also, the potentiodynamic polarization curves suggested that the four cr-mn austenitic steels showed comparable passive behaviour in sulfuric solutions.

Evaluation of corrosion behaviour on Mn-Cr austenitic steels using 0.1 M HCl solution
One of the attractive low activation steels is the austenitic Mn-Cr steel from the view point of waste disposal because of few long-lived nuclides. In this paper, three types of Mn-Cr austenitic steels were fabricated by vacuum induction furnace. Then plates with 10 mm thickness were fabricated by hot-rolling. The physical metallurgy of these steels was studied by the corrected Schaeffler diagr...
full textPHASE STABILITY AND SEMICONDUCTING BEHAVIOUR OF LOW ACTIVATION AUSTENITIC MN-CR STEELS
Four compositions of austenitic Mn-Cr steels have been developed successfully for in-vessel component materials in power plant industry. The phase stability of these Mn-Cr steels was studied by and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. XRD patterns have shown that the matrix of these Mn-Cr steels is a single γ-phase structure. The potentiodynamic polarisation curves suggested that these fabricated ...
full textCorrosion Behaviour of High-Mn TWIP Steels with Electroless Ni-P Coating
An attempt has been taken to improve the corrosion resistance of twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steels (Fe-25Mn and Fe-25Mn-3Al) by electroless Ni-P coating. Corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaCl and 0.1M H2SO4 solutions was characterized by the potentiodynamic polarization curves and Tafel method calculations. It was found that Ni-P coating improved the corrosion resistance by the factor of 4 ...
full textA Critical Assessment of First Principles Inputs for Modeling RIS in Austenitic Fe-Cr-Ni Steels
Radiation induced segregation (RIS) in austenitic Fe-Cr-Ni steels is a widely studied but incompletely understood process important for reactor components. Experimental studies have shown that Cr depletes strongly at grain boundaries, giving rise to corrosion resistance issues. Various research throughout the years has produced models that make specific assumptions about the dominant mechanisms...
full textEFFECT OF IMMERSION TIME ON THE ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOUR OF AISI 321 STAINLESS STEEL IN 0.1 M H2SO4 SOLUTION
In this study, effect of immersion time on the electrochemical behaviour of AISI 321 stainless steel (AISI 321) in 0.1 M H 2SO 4 solution under open circuit potential (OCP) conditions was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization, Mott–Schottky analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Mott–Schottky analysis revealed that the passive films behave as n-type and p-type s...
full textInhibition Effect of 2,2’-bipyridyl on the Corrosion of Austenitic Stainless Steel in 0.5M H2SO4
The corrosion inhibition of AISI309 austenitic stainless steel by 2,2'-Bipyridyl in 0.5M H 2 SO 4 at 298K was studied using the mass loss’ method, the potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel), the linear polarization (LRP) and the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed a mixed inhibition mode and an increase in the charge transfer resistance, due to inhibitor molecules’ ad...
